The town of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis is the main town and administration centre for the Outer Hebrides/ western Isles of Scotland. Steeped in, an often eventful, history Stornoway has long been a place where tourists base their Hebridean vacations. From the very first tours of the Hebrides the town has been the main place of arrival and departure from the islands. Today the communication links are excellent with the nearby Stornoway Airport, ferry terminal and bus station. Unfortunately, even though Lord Leverhulme attempted to build one at the beginning of the twentieth century, Stornoway and the Outer Hebrides do not have a rail network.
